What is Dasha?

As per “Vedic Astrology”, Dasha is a noteworthy factor in horoscopes. Because planet’s transit depends on the Dasha. Dasha is nothing but it is a time period of the planet. During the Dashas, any planets gives benefic or malefic results time to time. All the planets are moving on their axis in the universe, the planet’s Dasha or transit period have certain periods. Dasha consist of three types such as “Mahadasha”, “Antardasha”, “Pratyantar Dasha” like so on.

What is Mahadasha

Vimsottari Dasa

The term "Maha" means big, and "Dasha" means a period of time, a type of system of “Dasha” which is called “Vimshottari Dasha” which is a span of 120 years as per Vedic Astrology. As per Vedic Astrology, there are nine planets, like Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. Each planet represents different aspects of life and has a unique influence on the native’s life from the birth till death. As per Maharishi Parashar, the native’s life is totally 120 years and that 120 years is divided into nine parts for planets. The collection of whole periods of the nine planets means 120 years, this is called the native’s actually “Ayush” or life. The Mahadasha period varied each other and their rotation period also defined according to that.

Suppose if we talk about “Saturn”, takes around 30 years to move across the entire 12 Zodiac Signs, whereas it stays in a Zodiac Sign for about 2.5 to 3 years. Saturn Mahadasha is also one of the longest periods which is 19 years. Similarly, the Sun’s Mahadasha period is 6 years only. All the planets will give their results whether it is benefic or malefic during their Mahadasha, Antardasha and Pratayantar Dasha periods.

All the activities of the native in their life is based on what “Mahadasha” what you are going to enter next and what is currently running in your life. During any Mahadasha period you will get whether awards or punishments that is based on your past deeds. The results of each dasha are also associated with your past life which is called our Karma.

Which Planet’s Mahadasha would come first in the life?

At the time of birth in which nakshatra, the Moon is transited, such nakshatra’s lord’s dasha will be started. Suppose, Moon is transited in the “Punarvashu Nakshatra” during the birth moment. Here, Jupiter is the lord of the “Punarvashu Nakshatra”. So, Jupiter Mahadasha will be started from the day one when the native was born. Moreover, Jupiter’s Mahadsha period is 16 years and within the 16 years, native will get benefic and malefic results as per the placement, conjunction as well as position of the Jupiter in the horoscope chart.

  • Jupiter Mahadasha 16 Years
  • Saturn Mahadasha 19 Years
  • Mercury Mahadasha 17 Years
  • Ketu Mahadasha 7 Years
  • Venus Mahadasha 20 Years
  • Sun Mahadasha 6 Years
  • Moon Mahadasha 10 Years
  • Mars Mahadasha 7 Years
  • Rahu Mahadasha 18 Years
  • Total Mahadasha Period: 120 Years
