Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat

By observing fast on “Sankashti Chaturthi” person gets special blessings of Lord Ganesha. By worshiping Lord Ganesha on this day, all the wishes are fulfilled and even the bad things in life start getting done. Along with this, happiness and prosperity prevail in the house and one gets relief from the troubles in life.

What to do on the Day of Sankashti Chaturthi

• On the day of Sankashti Chaturthi, worship Lord Ganesha with proper rituals.
• Keep a fast on Sankashti Chaturthi and eat food once end of the day before sunset during the fast.
• Do puja of Lord Ganesh with 16 treatments
• Offer Modak, milk, fruits etc. to Lord Ganesha.
• Chant Ganesh Mantra and donate to the poor.
• Recite Ganesh Purana.

What not to do on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi

• Take fruits or fruit-based Satvik foods only.
• No alcohol, no non-veg.
• Avoid consume grain foods like roti, rice, bread etc.
• Stay away from negative thoughts.
• Don’t speak lie on the day at least.
• Don't hurt anyone and don’t use abuse words.
• You can use Fruits, milk, curd, sago, water chestnut, any types of dry fruits in the fast.

Sankashti Chaturthi Fast Story

Once upon a time, Banasur's daughter “Usha” dreamed of Anirudh while sleeping, due to separation from “Anirudh(अनिरुद्ध)” she became so desire that her mind was not getting any peace. She got pictures of all the people living in Tribhuvan made by her friend “Chitralekha”. She is an amazing painter as well as knew have some demonic illusion in or “Mayabi Vidya(मायाबी विद्या)”. When Usha saw Anirudh in the picture, she said that she had seen that person in his dream. Along with this I also got married. She said to her friend, oh friend! wherever this person is, please find him. Otherwise, I will sacrifice my life for its separation.

As per the advice of her friend, Chitralekha searched at many places and reached Dwarkapuri. Chitralekha had knowledge of the demonic illusion, she recognized Anirudh there and kidnapped him at night, then picking up Anirudh along with his bed, she entered the kingdom of Banasur. Here Pradyumna's son fell ill with an incurable disease due to grief. Krishna ji also became distraught due to the incident of his son “Pradyamna” and grandson “Aniruddha”. Rukmini also became sad and started crying and with a sad heart she said to Krishna ji, Hey! Keshav, has someone kidnapped our beloved grandson? or has he gone somewhere of his own free will?

I will give up my life in front of you in grief. Hearing Rukmini's words, Shri Krishna ji attended the meeting of Yadavas. There he saw sage “Lomash”. Shri Krishna narrated the entire incident with the sage. Shri Krishna asked the sage Lomash, oh sage! Who has taken away our grandson? or has he gone away on his own?

His mother and son are very sad due to separation. Lomash Muni said, oh Krishna! Chitralekha, the friend of Banasur's daughter Usha, she has kidnapped her and has kept her hidden in Banasur's palace. You perform the ritual on Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. By observing this fast you will get your grandson.

Shri Krishna observed a fast as per the advice of sage Lomash and with the effect of this fast he defeated Banasur. Lord Krishna cut off the thousand arms of Banasur. The reason for achieving such success was the effect of Sankshti Chaturthi fasting(संकष्टी चतुर्थी व्रत), it is very effective and this fast destroys all the troubles. Even great scholars cannot describe the glory of this fast.
