Who is Shailaputri?

Navratri is a period of nine days in which the nine Durgas are worshiped as the divine feminine known as "Nava Durga". An incarnation of Goddess Durga is worshiped every day during Navratri.

How was Shailaputri born?

According to Shiva Purana and Devi Bhagavata Mahapuran, Shailaputri is the daughter of the mountain king “Himavat”, and is the manifestation and form of the Hindu mother goddess Mahadevi, who represents herself as the pure form of Goddess Parvati. She is the first Navadurga who is worshiped on the first day of Navratri and is an incarnation of Goddess Sati.

The first incarnation of Mother “Parvati” is Shailaputri, who is depicted with two hands and a crescent moon on her forehead. He has a trident in his right hand and a lotus flower in his left hand. She rides a bull named Nandi.

Shailputri was the daughter of Which King?

Shailaputri is "Adi Parashakti", who was born in the house of mountain king "Parvat Raj Himalaya". The name "Shailaputri" literally means daughter of the mountain. She is known as Sati Bhavani, Mother Parvati or Hemavati, the daughter of King Himavat of the Himalayas.
