What is Ekadashi?
The word “Ekadashi” means the 11th day of Shukla Paksha/ Krishna Paksha tithi, calculated according to the transit period of the Moon. There are a total of 30 Tithis in the month, out of which 15 days are called Krishna Paksha or the other 15 days are called Shukla Paksha. Ekadashi is popularly celebrated in Vaishnavism which is one of the major paths of Sanatan Dharma. Followers worship Lord Vishnu by fasting or only symbolically; The idea was always to reap the benefits of self-discipline and fasting and it was linked to the way of life through Sanatma Dharma practices.
Why Ekadashi Vrat Should do?
As per Sanatan Dharm (सनातन धर्म), the primary purpose of fasting on Ekadashi is to gain control over the mind and physical senses and lead it to spiritual progress. Apart from this, fasting also has many health benefits. Ekadashi fast lasts for three days. Devotees eat once in the afternoon the day before the Ekadashi day (Dasami) to ensure that there is no leftover food in the stomach the next day. Devotees observe a strict fast without food or water on the day of Ekadashi and break the fast only after sunrise on the next day called Dwadashi Tithi. It is said that the one who observes Ekadashi fast, all his sins are destroyed and in the end he goes to “Vishnu Lok(विष्णु लोक)”, along with him he benefits from the blessings of Lord Vishnu. There are 24 Ekadashis in a year and 2 Ekadashis come in a month according to Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. So let us know in detail about those 24 Ekadashis below.
