Gan-Nagai the Festival of Light
Gan-Ngai is a festival of the Zeliangrong people such indigenous Zeme, Liangmei and Rongmei tribal area in north east of India region like Assam, Manipur and Nagaland in north eastern India. Gan-Nagai is the festival of light, which celebrates the victory of light over evil and the advent of light or fire.
Post -Harvest Festival
It is a post-harvest festival that marks the thanks giving to Lord “Tingkao Ragwang” for a good harvest season and the beginning of the new year.
Festival Celebrates for Five Days
The festival is celebrated for five days with various rituals, prayers and festivities such as music, dance and feasting.
Gan Ngai is celebrating for five days in the name of like following:
- Day 1 : Ngai Gangmei
- Day2: Nagai Dai
- Day 3: Tuna Gan Nagai
- Day 4: Rongku Mei or Rongluimei Ngai
- Day 5: Nap Chan Ngai
On the sixth day, Kabui village authorities are Pei members or Thoubei perform customary rituals in the northern part of the village called Raren Lumei.
