Significance of Ker Puja(केर पूजा)
Ker Puja is a festival celebrated in Tripura, India. It is a local festival. This festival falls in the month of August. The good thing is that people celebrate this pooja for two weeks after the Kharchi Puja in honor of Ker, the main deity of this pooja is "Vastu Devta". It includes offerings, sacrifices and a prescribed boundary that protects people from natural calamities and protects them from external negativity and aggression.
Ker Puja Celebrates in Tripura
Ker Puja was started in the very earlier in the rajwada time. Ker Puja was started by the King of Tripura. Participating in this puja is mandatory for the Halam tribe, a special tribe living in Tripura. During the festival, people blocked the entrance gates of the capital for about 2.5 days and the participants performed various types of local dances, songs, activities, lighting fire etc. People of Tripura love this festival very much and eagerly wait to celebrate it every year.
Why Tripura Tribes Worship Ker Puja?
The main purpose of “Ker Puja” is to ensure the welfare, protection, as well as prosperity of the tribal community of Tripura. They believed that, the deity “Ker” protects them from the natural calamities, diseases, and natural disasters as well. During the festival time, strict rules and restrictions are imposed within the boundary where the Puja is performed and the entry and exit from the area also restricted during the Ker puja moment.
