About Mahavir Jayanti 2025
Mahavira was born on the Thirteenth Day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra Month. Lord Mahavir Jayanti is Celebrates in March or April every year. “Janma Kalyanak” is one of the most important religious festivals in Jainism. It celebrates the birth of Mahavira, the twenty-fourth and last Tirthankara of the present Avasarpini. According to Jain texts, Mahavira was born on the thirteenth day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month in 599 BC. According to Shvetambara tradition, he was born in Kshatriyakund in Bihar.
The History of Lord Mahavira
Some modern historians consider Kundgram to be his birthplace. He was born in the Republic of Vajji, a democratic state where the king was elected by vote. Vaishali was its capital. Due to the increased prosperity in the kingdom at the time of his birth, he was named Vardhaman, meaning "increasing".
In Vasokund, Mahavir is revered by the villagers. A place called Ahalya Bhoomi has not been plowed by that family for hundreds of years, because it is considered to be the birthplace of Mahavira.
How Mahavir Jayanti Celebrates
The idol of Mahavir is taken on a chariot in a procession called Rath Yatra. Stavanas (religious rhymes) are recited along the way. The idols of Mahavira are ritually consecrated which is called Abhishek. During the day, most members of the Jain community engage in some form of charitable work, prayer, worship and fasting. Many devotees visit temples dedicated to Mahavira to meditate and pray on the day.
