U Tirot Singh Day(यू तिरोत सिंह दिवस) is a regional public holiday in Meghalaya, India. This regional holiday falls on 17th July every year. You Tried Singh Day is celebrated in honor of Tirot Singh, the great 19th century freedom fighter of Meghalaya. He led the rebellion against the British government.
U Tirot Sing was a Brave King
Tirot Singh, full name U Tirot Sing Siem, was one of the Khasi chiefs. He was very strong and courageous. He derived his descent from the clan of Simleah(सिमलीह वंश). He was the king of Siem (meaning Nongkhlaw), which was part of the Khasi Hills region. His surname was Simleah. He was a constitutional chief who shared corporate authority with his council and general representatives of the chief clans of his territory. Tirot Sing was always against the British government. Eventually they declared war and fought against British attempts to control the Khasi Hills.
